The next Friends of the Library Book Sale will celebrate not just books but local authors.

Set to start Saturday, Sept. 21, the fundraiser for Friends of the Chattanooga Public Library will include the customary tens of thousands of books and other media, as well as local authors selling, signing and reading from their works.

Twenty percent of the local authors' profits will be donated to Friends of the Library, the fundraising group that supports library initiatives not funded by the city. These include literacy programs, staff appreciation and development, and projects for children and teens.

The 10-day sale will run through Monday, Sept. 30, inside Eastgate Town Center, 5600 Brainerd Road.

Hours are 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Saturday, noon-6 p.m. Sundays.

The local authors table will be staffed 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday, noon-6 p.m. Sundays, with readings and presentations 11 a.m-2 p.m. most days, noon-2 p.m. Sundays.

Book prices are $2 for hardback, $1 paperback, 50 cents and $1 for children's titles. Special books are priced separately. The final weekend, Sept. 28-29, will offer goods at half price. The final day, Sept. 30, will be a bag sale for $4.
