Hamilton County Schools Superintendent Rick Smith has announced that Jim Jarvis has been named principal of Ooltewah High School.

Jarvis is currently an assistant principal at the school and has been with the Hamilton County Department of Education since 1984. His appointment is effective immediately.

Jarvis had been serving as acting principal at the school that is Hamilton County's second largest by enrollment.

The change in principal at Ooltewah High comes less than a week after the previous principal, Mark Bean, retired.

Bean and Ooltewah Assistant Principal Beverly Holllingsworth had earlier been placed on unpaid suspension while the school system central office investigated them for possible "unprofessional conduct."
