Friends and family are putting on a benefit concert Sunday, Sept. 29, for Mathew Wilson in Dayton, Tenn. The fundraiser is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. in Centennial Park on Second Avenue between the post office and Rhea County Courthouse.

Scheduled to perform are Danny Shirley of Confederate Railroad, Roger Alan Wade, The Other Guys and Carrie Hassler.

Wilson, a husband and father of three young children, became ill several months ago. He has had two surgeries and will likely have two more, according to his uncle, longtime local musician Neal Nichols. The concert will raise money to help with expenses.

"He's facing some serious stuff, and the only thing I knew to do was call some of the friends like Danny and Roger and Carrie," Nichols says. "Some of the ladies up there in Dayton will be baking cakes for sale, and we'll be selling hot dogs as well.

"I hope people will bring a lawn chair and come out and help."
