Crime tileA federal grand jury indicted a Cleveland, Tenn., doctor this week on charges that he he ripped off the Medicare system to get about $7.5 million.
Dr. Raymond Sean Brown, 44, bought 254 vials of Botox between 2008 and 2012. But, according to the indictment, he billed Medicare for 17,766 vials.
In all, the grand jury indicted Brown on 35 counts. This includes charges of wire fraud, mail fraud, healthcare fraud and money laundering. Brown is next scheduled to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Susan Lee for arraignment on Oct. 1.
With the money he obtained, according to the indictment, Brown paid one car dealership about $59,000 and another one about $79,000. If convicted, Brown may have to give up about $6.7 million that currently sits in his bank accounts. He also may be subject to a money judgment worth at least $7.4 million.
Brown also may face a long life in prison. He faces a 20-year punishment for each count of wire and mail fraud, as well as 10 years for each county of health care fraud and money laundering.
