United Auto Workers, UAW, logoThe United Auto Workers has asked that a planned April 21 National Labor Relations Board hearing in Chattanooga be put off until the panel can look into new allegations of collusion between anti-union groups and Republican politicians.
In a filing with the NLRB, the UAW cited $300 million in financial incentives which were offered last year to Volkswagen for the company to produce a new sport utility vehicle at the Chattanooga plant.
A Democratic lawmaker has called the incentives "bribing" and "intimidation." But Gov. Bill Haslam said the incentives were never tied to an outcome of the UAW vote.
The UAW is asking that the anti-union group Southern Momentum and the National Right to Work Legal Foundation not be allowed to intervene in the NLRB case.
The UAW lost a recognition vote at the Chattanooga plant in February. It later filed an appeal for a revote with the NLRB, saying that third-party groups and Republican politicians interfered.
