Hamilton County Commissioners will spend a week mulling an intergovernmental loan to help Erlanger Health System turn $10 million into $30 million.

The hospital plans to loan the county $10 million, which the county will transfer through the state and federal governments to gain access to a public hospital fund. When the money makes its way back to Erlanger, the federal government will have added $20 million to the total.

Commission Chairman Fred Skillern said today he expects the commission will support the measure, but he asked that Erlanger give commissioners one week to look everything over.

The money comes from two pools of federal money. The first is the Public Hospital Supplemental Payment Pool. The second is a restored program that will provide about $80 million for Tennessee hospitals for uninsured care.

Mayor Jim Coppinger said he was excited about the program and said the county would be able to draw from the pool two more times. Once in July and once a year later.
