Coming back from two injuries that prematurely ended his 2013 season with the Seattle Mariners, Ringgold resident Stephen Pryor is rehabbing with the Jackson Generals and is supposed to pitch in relief tonight and Sunday against the Chattanooga Lookouts at AT&T Field. The former Cleveland State standout pitched in seven of Seattle's first 14 games last year before straining a lat muscle on April 14, and he tried to come back in July but aggravated the injury, the tendon retracting and attaching itself to his triceps muscle. He became the first baseball player besides Jake Peavy to have surgery on that problem. Except for some spring-training outings, this is his first game since. "For me it's good to be back in my hometown and see family," Pryor said. "I just hope to throw strikes and feel good afterward."
• The Cleveland State baseball team won 13-5 and 11-4 Wednesday over the University of the Cumberlands junior varsity in Williamsburg, Ky. The Cougars (20-15) scored six runs in their first at-bat. Janson Roberson was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Jared Davis was 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBIs and two runs in the first game. In the second, Wright Hackett was 3-for-5 and Zack Janes, Evan Speicher and Brock Johnson each had two RBIs. Jordan Whitmire and Raunel Perez got the pitching wins.
• Covenant College defeated visiting Sewanee 12-1 and 7-1 in NCAA Division III baseball Wednesday on Lookout Mountain. Perry Rigby and David Lockwood homered for the Scots in the first game, and K.C. Simons, Will Cleland, Paul Phillips, Chris Rolling and Alex Kerr each had two. Chris Erdmier was 2-for-2 and scored Sewanee's run. Jordan Lester earned his fourth pitching victory of the season with four innings of scoreless work. In the second game, Simons and Cleland each tripled, and first baseman Scott Gillespie was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Jack Whaley and Michael Walker each were 2-for-3 for Sewanee. Spencer Smith picked up the win with four innings in relief of Taylor Boyle.
• Tennessee Wesleyan's baseball team beat Hiwassee 12-1 on Wednesday as Shell McClain went 3-4 with two home runs, a double and three RBIs. Wes Minton drove in two and scored two.
Softball
• The Lee University softball team swept Young Harris in a Wednesday doubleheader in Cleveland, 11-3 and 14-6, as leadoff batter Amanda Lynn went 8-for-8 with eight runs scored and five RBIs. Ana Coscorrosa added a double and her sixth home run of the season in the second game.
• Bryan College swept a doubleheader from Tennessee Wesleyan, 8-0 and 7-2, in Appalachian Athletic Conference softball Wednesday. In game one, Heather Daniel and Mariam Wood drove in two runs each and Heidi Daniel and Katelyn Bowen had home runs. In game two, Olivia Gore drove in two and scored two for Bryan.
• Sara Kelley from Ooltewah went 3-for-4 with her eighth home run of the season and three RBIs as Carson-Newman bounced back from a 4-0 loss Tuesday at Lincoln Memorial with a 9-5 win in the second game of the South Atlantic Conference doubleheader. Ridgeland graduate Caitlyn Lance was 2-for-4 with an RBI for CNU (27-11, 6-6), and Chattanooga State transfer Cassie Lyons was the winning pitcher.

• With 20 winter-sports athletes making the Academic All-Southern Conference Team for 2013-14, UTC was second only to Appalachian State's 23.
