Adam McLamb has joined the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga volleyball coaching staff after two years as a volunteer assistant at Virginia Tech. "We are excited to bring Adam to Chattanooga," head coach Travis Filar said in UTC's announcement release. "He has a lot of experience, and it will be great to have a new set of coaching eyes on the court." Savanah Stansell and volunteer assist Duane Hill continue on Filar's staff. McLamb will be working mainly with the Mocs' pin hitters and helping speed up the team's pace with passing-game instruction, according to Thursday's release. Before working at Virginia Tech, he was a graduate assistant for two years at New Hampshire, where he was an all-national-tournament setter on the club team that won the NCVF Division 1-AA championship. He also played club volleyball an undergraduate at Radford, and he coached juniors for the Coastal Virginia Volleyball Club. "Meeting with Travis, Savanah and the team was what really drew me to Chattanooga," the Chesapeake, Va., native said. "They are building a great volleyball culture and want to do things the right way. They have done a great job so far, and I hope to add on to what they have already built. I want to help turn this into a championship program."

• UTC's Teghan Henderson will compete this evening in the women's 5000-meter run at the prestigious Stanford Invitational track and field meet. The cross country All-American is trying to post a qualifying time for the NCAA East Regional. Chattanooga attorney and former UTC star Lanni Marchant is entered in the 10k at the Stanford meet.

Tennis

• Sewanee sophomore Eric Roddy from Baylor School was the Southern Athletic Association men's tennis player of the week, and Sewanee's Annie Veron, also a sophomore, was the women's honoree. Roddy was 3-0 last weekend, losing only nine games in two singles matches and a doubles contest. He is 8-2 in singles this season and 6-4 in doubles. Veron, who's from San Antonio, went 3-0 at No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles last weekend and is 12-3 in singles and 13-4 in doubles.

Golf

• Tennessee Wesleyan College finished second to Milligan in the 11-team Appalachian Athletic Conference men's golf regular-season standings, and Wesleyan's Keoni Vidrine and Travis Rodgers made the five-man All-AAC first team based on play in the league's fall and spring tournaments. Tom Durbin from ninth-place Bryan earned a place on the second team. The women's spring AAC tourney is set for Monday and Tuesday in Elizabethton, Tenn.

• The Covenant College men's golf team moved up eight spots this week in the Golfstat rankings for NCAA Division III and thereby earned a spot in the USA South tournament next weekend in Rocky Mount, N.C. But the Scots will play only Friday and Saturday in the three-day event because of the school's rule against Sunday competition. Rising from 94th to 86th in the rankings put Covenant eighth among USAS teams, nine of which play in the conference tourney. Five league teams are in the top 30, two in the top 10.

General

• A memorial service for former East Ridge High School basketball and baseball coach Marshall McEwen will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, and the funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. McEwen, who played basketball at Sale Creek and worked for the Hamilton County school system for 30 years, died Sunday in Manchester at age 83. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
