The petition to recall Chris Anderson currently has 444 total signatures, 249 of those approved and 195 rejected, said Hamilton County Administrator of Elections Kerry Steelman.

It was believed by members of the commission that the recall effort had until April 9 to collect the 1,600 signatures needed. However, County Attorney Rheubin Taylor told the commission that the state's position was that the recall effort had until April 29 to collect their signatures.

The campaign still has to collect more than 90 percent of the required signatures in the next few weeks.

April 29 is the "drop-dead" date for the recall effort to make it onto the August ballots, said Election Commission Chairman Michael Walden.
