Easter fun for people, pets

You’ll need to stay tuned until next week’s edition of ChattanoogaNow for the larger share of Easter events to unfold. In the meantime, here are five events happening over the next few days — two for people, three for pets. Apparently the Easter Bunny has a soft spot for other critters.

Don’t forget that photos with Mr. Bunny continue through Saturday, April 19, at all area malls. Bradley Square Mall in Cleveland, Tenn., will hold its final Pet Night with the Easter Bunny from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 14. Last Pet Night at Northgate Mall in Hixson will be 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 15.

■ Easter Egg Hunt for the Pooches: This second annual fundraiser for Safe Haven Animal Rescue Program of Polk County includes best costume, longest tail, best trick, cutest dog and pet/owner look-alike contests, plus an agility course and egg hunt from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at Fletcher Park, 1575 Tennessee Nursery Road, NW, in Cleveland, Tenn. (Rain date is Sunday, April 13.) Costs to participate range from $5 to $20. Find out more at www.sharprescue.org.

■ Doggie Spring Egg Hunt: Dogs can sniff out doggie treats and other prizes hidden in the eggs at McKamey Animal Center, 4500 N. Access Road, at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 12. Doors open at 11 a.m. Cost is $5 per pooch or two cans of dog or cat food. Dogs must be on a leash and display a current rabies tag on their collar. For more information, call 423-305-6500 or visit www.mckamey animalcenter.org.

■ Easter Egg Palooza: This free event, featuring crafts, games, entertainment and an egg hunt for children up to age 12, is scheduled 1-3 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 3210 Social Circle. Call 423-877-6447 for more information.

■ Glow-in-the-Dark Easter Egg Hunt: Several Georgia state parks and historic sites have scheduled Easter events, including this nighttime egg hunt at Fort Mountain State Park, 181 Fort Mountain State Park Road in Chatsworth, Ga. The fun starts at 8:30 p.m. with a wagon ride to the hunting grounds. Space is limited, so register at www.friendsoffort mountain.com. Parking fee is $5. Visit Georgia StateParks.org for more activities.

■ Fifi & Fido’s Easter Bonnet Parade: Dress your four-legged friends in their best Easter finery on Wednesday, April 16, for a chance to win a pet lover’s basket valued at more than $200 from Barnes & Noble. The event begins with registration from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Center Court at Hamilton Place, 2100 Hamilton Place Blvd., followed by a parade onstage at 7 p.m. Pet photos with the Easter Bunny will be made from 5 to 9 p.m. that day also. Participation in the parade is free. For more information, call the mall at 423-894-7177.
