The GOP's advantage and other letters to the editors

The GOP's advantage

In the March 31 Chattanooga Times Free Press, two articles by The Associated Press caught my attention. Both articles describe why the GOP has the political advantage over the Democrats in the upcoming congressional and senatorial races by "winning key states' legislatures and then redrawing house districts to tilt the playing field in their favor."

I totally disagree with these two articles. The reason the Democrats are losing the U.S. House, Senate and hopefully the presidential elections are because the "progressive" Democrat Party has aligned itself with socialist and communist parties. The American people do not want a socialist or communist-style government. We do not want to become another Europe. I would like to suggest going to the Communist Party USA website and reading the provided materials and forming your own opinion of what a "progressive" really is. The Communist Party USA calls themselves progressives. Read the newspaper and their Political Action Committee material.

Beware GOP budget

In the not-too-distant future, imagine being on Medicare and learning you have cancer. Treatments will cost $10,000 each, medicines $3,000 monthly and your private policy is about to expire and is therefore up for renewal and renegotiation.

Be comforted that the Republican budget plan proposed by Rep. Paul Ryan will provide a voucher, an amount yet to be determined, as you shop around. Surely, you will be pleased with your role in balancing the federal budget. In all likelihood, you can soon expect a new plan along similar lines with Social Security as it offers you a package to be shopped with your favorite stockbroker.

As the Republicans always say, "God bless."

Support for Chris Anderson

The Downtown Owners' Collective, an organization of downtown residential owners, would like to express support for Councilman Chris Anderson, District 7, in his fight against his current recall. As residents of the downtown area we experience different situations than the average rural homeowner. We have found Councilman Anderson to be extremely helpful in resolving some of the issues that arise, as well as being accessible to his constituents. Working full time and willing to serve his community requires a lot of discipline and a willingness to help his fellow neighbors. We have found him to be available and helpful to all of us. Therefore, we strongly urge everyone in Chris's district to continue supporting Councilman Anderson on the City Council.

Surrender of our freedoms

On March 14, the Obama administration announced that America was surrendering control to the United Nations over key aspects of the Internet, control that America had because we built it in the first place. Unfortunately, the largest voting bloc in the U.N. is the Organization for Islamic Cooperation, a Saudi-dominated bloc of 57 nations that has waged an aggressive campaign against free speech, freedom of the press and free expression. For an American president to betray the American public, our Founding Fathers, and our Constitution and throw our freedom of speech at the feet of tyrants to decide what we can and cannot say under the threat of a lawsuit for hate crime is unconscionable, shameful and reckless and stretches the boundaries of betrayal. Our Founding Fathers are turning in their graves!
