Roberts leads Bryan over Montreat

Kevin Roberts went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored as Bryan College won 8-2 Friday in the opener of its Appalachian Athletic Conference baseball series at Montreat.

Grant Zawadzki and Tyler Latham each was 2-for-4 for the winning Lions (25-18, 11-8), Zawadzki with two RBIs and Latham with one, and only one of the two runs allowed by starting pitcher L.J. Rowden in 7 2/3 innings was earned.

* Covenant 12, Methodist 6: At Zebulon, N.C., Chris Rollins was 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, two RBIs and two runs, and Alex Kerr, who homered, and David Lockwood each drove in three runs as the Scots got even in the USA South series at a win apiece.

Perry Rigby was 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs, and Scott Gillespie and Paul Phillips scored three and two for Covenant (21-9, 15-5).

* Walters State 10, Cleveland State 6: At Morristown, Tenn., the Senators won the opener of the TCCAA weekend series with Austin Norrell going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Brycen Roberts going 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs. Former Soddy-Daisy star James Fowlkes also homered for Walters State (35-10, 18-4).

Keith Buckhault drove in two runs for Cleveland State (23-18), and Wright Hackett, Jared Davis and Cameron Strickland each was 2-for-4. Hackett, Evan Speicher and Janson Roberson also had Cougars RBIs.
