Dalton author at round table
CHATTANOOGA - Robert D. Jenkins, a historian, author and attorney from Dalton, Ga., will speak Tuesday at the monthly meeting of the Chattanooga Civil War Round Table.
Jenkins will discuss the subject of his recent book, "The Battle of Peach Tree Creek: Hood's First Sortie, 20 July 1864."
The meeting is set for 7 p.m. in the Millis-Evans Room of Caldwell Hall on the campus of McCallie School. Enter the campus from Dodds Avenue and follow the signs to the Academic Quadrangle and Caldwell Hall. The meeting is free and open to the public.
Wind ensemble presents concert
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Wind Ensemble of Lee University will present its final concert of the semester at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Conn Center, according to a university news release.
Conducted by David Holsinger, the performance will feature music from 11 composers and guest appearances by three graduate school conductors and associate conductor Winona Holsinger.
Music for the evening will span nearly 100 years, from the 1918 Sousa march "Bullets and Bayonets" to the 2014 prepublication performance of Michael Markowski's "JoyRIDE," the release stated.

Canyon hike observes Earth Day
FORT PAYNE, Ala. - Park Ranger Larry Beane will lead an Earth Day hike on April 22 at Little River Canyon National Preserve near Fort Payne, Ala.
Participants should meet at the Little River Canyon Center on Alabama Highway 35 at 10 a.m. CDT. The 1 1/2 mile hike will circle the Path to Learning at the Little River Canyon Center and the trail to Little River Falls, lasting about two hours.

Fire claims lives of man, child
SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - Authorities say a cabin fire in Sevierville has claimed the lives of an Indiana man and a child.
WBIR-TV reported Ricky Hudson, 56, of Indianapolis, Ind., and 5-year-old Tayveon Temple were among more than 20 people who were in the three-story cabin when the fire broke out around 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
Hudson made it out of the cabin but was badly cut by breaking glass and died at a hospital. Authorities said the child's remains were still in the cabin as of Sunday afternoon.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Small plane lands on highway
COMMERCE, Ga. - Police in northeastern Georgia said four people were aboard a small plane that made an emergency landing on U.S. Highway 441 on Sunday morning.
The Cessna was en route from Charleston, S.C., to Gainesville, Ga., when it began losing power and the pilot made an emergency landing. No injuries were reported.
