City Council gave the city the thumbs up to pursue a $400,000 grant to study the possibility of a light rail system to run from downtown to Enterprise South.
Chattanooga officials estimate a $35 million price tag to build a proposed light rail - a plan that is still in its infancy.
The study - which requires a $300,000 match from the city - would explore the economic impact on the city, including job growth and a boost in tourism.
