Courter: Things I wish my kids would ask me

Editor's note: Barry Courter has a 25-year-old son who is a college graduate and a 20-year-old daughter who is a sophomore in college.

Q: Dad, should I listen to my bosses or my professors when it comes to what I should be learning for the future?

A: The person who signs your check. Actually, there is no absolute answer here. Some professors tend to think in a vacuum, ignoring "real world" factors, and some bosses are only concerned with their own business and miss the big picuture. Neither is necessarily wrong, but neither is always right, either. The best thing is to ask as many people in both groups as you can and make an educated decision on your own needs and desires based on that.
