Man charged in 2012 slaying in Madison County

JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson police say a man has been charged with felony murder and attempted armed robbery in a shooting death from November 2012.

Police say 21-year-old Craig Taylor was arrested Tuesday and being held in the Madison County jail. Online jail records didn't indicate whether he was represented by a lawyer.

Taylor is charged in the death of 24-year-old Devon Staten and attempted aggravated robbery of Staten's girlfriend.

Police said the woman was approached by a man wearing a mask and wielding a gun and forced inside her home. Police said Staten and the gunman exchanged gunfire and Staten was fatally wounded.

Police said the woman identified a mask found later as the one worn by the gunman, and after Taylor became a suspect in the case, a DNA link was discovered to the mask.
