A handful of new coaches are stepping in at Boyd-Buchanan including Todd Ledbetter, Zach Roddenberry, Alfie Dodd, Sarah Bass and Wes Stone.

Roddenberry arrived late Sunday night and just signed his contract earlier this week. He'll be coaching boys' basketball. Ledbetter is taking over girls' soccer and Dodd will be the girls' volleyball coach, assisted by Bass. Stone will be an assistant in football and baseball.

"There is a lot of enthusiasm there," Buccaneers athletic director Joe Pope said.

Roddenberry coached last year at Midland High in Pleasant Plains, Ark. He is a former post player at Harding University and led the team in scoring his junior and senior years, averaging 18 points per game.

Athletic director and a physical education teacher at Brainerd Baptist, Ledbetter is a former Buccaneer and played soccer at Boyd-Buchanan from 1998-2001. He coached soccer at David Brainerd and also has served as an assistant to veteran Ooltewah coach Rick Adolph. Last year he coached soccer at Grace Academy.

Dodd and Bass are both involved with Choo Choo volleyball. Bass played at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Dodd, now manager of GNC stores in the Chattanooga area, played college club volleyball before tying on pro circuits in Memphis, New Orleans at St. Louis.

Stone worked as an assistant football coach at South Pittsburg for more than a decade and put Pirates baseball back on the map with the most successful five-year string in the school's history.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my years at South Pittsburg. There were so many positives including my relationship with the administration and also with [former head football coach] Vic Grider," Stone said. "I had this opportunity at Boyd-Buchanan, and it was just too good to pass up. I am going from one great school to another."

South Pittsburg football is recognized statewide, and Buccaneers coach Grant Reynolds was pleased with the hire.

"He obviously has a lot of good championship experience, having been part of some very successful teams at South Pittsburg," Reynolds said. "He interacts so well with kids. I've seen him do it from a distance and now close up, and he does a good job. He'll be an asset to the school and to the football team."

Stone's baseball experience won't be wasted. He will also serve as an assistant in the Bucs' baseball program.
