LISA DENTON: Barry, a band with one of the coolest names ever is coming to Nightfall on Friday - indie rockers Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.

I just think it's genius that their name tells you what to do when you listen to their music. You know, when we started this column, "Read This, Get Off the Couch" seemed like such a mouthful, but that approach works for the band. Sometimes, it ought to be "Read This, Don't Get Mad," but that reaction is usually directed more at me than you.

BARRY COURTER: It is a great name, and while on the subject of letting people know about us and this column, I thought it was great this week how you clued in a new, but enthusiastic fan.

LISA: Bless her heart.

BARRY: The details: This person came up and said she was our No. 1 fan. You stopped her on the spot and told her there was a whole process for claiming that illustrious title.

LISA: Right. A written application. References. Vetting. And some cash.

BARRY: Exactly. We can only afford so much.

Anyway, I have family and friends driving in from out of town just to see Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. They've had me practicing what seems like simple instructions, but I struggle to remember to clap hands, then say "Yeah." I get it out of order.

LISA: Then I don't recommend you try the Macarena.

While we're on the subject of great band names, Cornmeal will headline at Riverfront Nights on Saturday. Maybe some vendor will think to sell pinto beans.

BARRY: Cornmeal is a good name and an even better band. The name makes you think their people are from 'round here, but they are from Chicago. They do roots and bluegrass music, so we can overlook their home address.

Riverfront Nights has a really good lineup this year, and it's hard to beat free music right on the river. You know you can bring your dog, too? And they have people there to talk about the outdoor stuff going on around our area. You can even rent a paddleboard.

LISA: I don't see a paddleboard - standup, sit-down or otherwise - in my immediate future, but I would like to hitch a ride in a rock buggy at Adventure Offroad Park in South Pittsburg on Saturday. Thirty-two drivers are racing these crazy-looking vehicles up Bounty Hill for a chance to win $5,000. I'd say they'll need part of their winnings for chiropractic care once they get to the top of the rock.

When I first saw it was a buggy race, I got excited, thinking it might be grocery buggies (carts, if you're not from the South). I have some experience with that. When we were kids, my brother and I were wrestling over a buggy full of groceries when we turned it over and spilled the whole load. Mama gave us both a whack right there in the middle of Shipley's Supermarket, then made us pick up the groceries. That was back before parents had to worry about their kids' self-esteem. But if I might set the record straight: It was all Richie's fault.
