The nation's second-biggest health insurer, Wellpoint, said Tuesday that it will change its name to Anthem Inc., the brand associated with most of the company's best known health plans.

"We believe it is important to call ourselves by the name that people know best -- Anthem," company CEO Joseph Swedish said.

The Indianapolis-based company operates plans in 14 states, including Georgia, and primarily does business as Anthem Blue Cross and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

Anthem Inc. merged with WellPoint Health Networks in 2004 and the combined company took the name Wellpoint Inc.

Job hiring rises to 6-year high

Job openings in June reached the highest number in 13 years, while hiring showed levels not seen since early 2008, according to a Bureau of Labor Statistics report released Tuesday.

The report came about a month after another BLS report showed that unemployment dipped to 6.1 percent in June -- the best rate since September 2008 -- suggesting that the American economy is distancing itself from the Great Recession.

"The economy is definitely starting to gain some steam," said Jordan Levine, the director of economic research at Beacon Economics, a California consulting firm.
