By the time spring rolls around next year, the vacant Fleetwood Coffee building should include apartments ready to be leased.

The mixed-use building at the corner of East 11th and King streets also will be home to SwiftWing Ventures.

McCormick & Co. Commercial Real Estate on Tuesday announced the plans, limited as they were.

The apartments would occupy the top two floors of the five-story red brick building in downtown Chattanooga. An estimated 15 to 25 loft-style units are planned for about 18,000 square feet, said Gerald McCormick of McCormick & Co. Those figures are still moving targets though, he said.

No additional details were disclosed.

A group of private investors, including former Hamilton County Mayor Claude Ramsey, in May purchased the 45,000-square-foot coffee building and the adjoining Fleetwood Commons building for about $3.5 million.

The coffee building is more than 100 years old and hasn't been used since the 1970s, when it served as a manufacturing facility for coffee.

The Fleetwood Commons building has been thrumming with business, though: SturmHaus beer bar and Sekisui Japanese restaurant are there, along with Thompson Engineering and about 20 two-bedroom apartments. Those apartments are about 1,000 square feet each and rent for about $1,300 a month, McCormick said.
