Gay acceptance from Bible ignorance and other letters to the editors

Gay acceptance from Bible ignorance

Mr. Cook, I agree with you that God loves the homosexual, and I think that adultery is a worse sin because more people are hurt. In the past, people in this world believed that it was a sin to be gay because everybody read the Bible and knew what it taught about being gay. Today, the majority of people have such an ignorance of the Bible that they accept homosexuality fully. Yes, Jesus would go to the civil ceremony of two gay people to try and influence them to turn away from such an immoral lifestyle before they ended up being separated from him forever. See Leviticus 18:22, Romans 1:26-28 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-11.

REV. BILL W. SMITH

The people have let politicians be corrupt

For a very long time, politics has become a money controlled entity, and we the American people let it happen. This is the greatest threat to our democracy. The politicians we elect are corrupt, and we the people let it happen. We elect those who dupe us in representing us, but when elected they abandon those causes for power and money. Politicians want you mad. They depend and thrive on it. This way, you will not ask them the tough questions or will forget about the questions. They want power, plain and simple, while we continue to suffer. Aren't you tired of being mad? Aren't you tired of not talking to your neighbors because each of you are so hard-core on what you believe that you forget these are the people you grew up with, your kids go to the same schools, breathe the same air and walk down the same streets? Remember this country was created for we the people, not we the lobbyists, not we the corporations, not we who have the influence.

Access to library asset for students

The city has done an amazing thing. Mayor Berke announced that all county students, K-12, will have free access to the wonderful learning opportunities afforded by the Chattanooga Public Library. Through these students, their families also will have free access. As far as I know, there was nothing which compelled the city to make this wonderful move. It is deserving of high praise and so important for our community. Thank you, Mayor Berke.

Post-election remarks show Wamp's colors

Weston Wamp's decided lack of class and civility in his post-election remarks serve to illustrate why some of us did not support him in his election bid. Even in the most bitterly contested campaigns, it is customary for the loser to congratulate the victor. Weston might consider how John McCain responded to Obama after losing a long and, at times, nasty presidential campaign. "I wish godspeed to the man who was my former opponent and will be my president," he said. Weston was correct on one point, however: His age certainly was a factor. Maybe with some more of it will come a degree of wisdom and maturity that will give him pause before making these types of remarks in the future.

Vote should awaken Fleischmann to job

An open letter to Congressman Chuck Fleischmann: Sir, 49.2 percent of voters in the Aug. 7 primary apparently disapprove of the job you are currently doing. That should be some kind of a wake-up call. You ran a negative campaign with no real word on what you were doing or would do for the 3rd District. Myself and several family members personally witnessed you at multiple campaign events and polling places. You are truly an angry congressman. Your shouts of "I am your congressman" seemed both arrogant and defensive. Almost a "how dare anyone run against me or question me" comment. Your negative attacks on Weston Wamp convinced just enough voters to get you re-elected. I hope that you will look at the results, wake up and do a better job for this district than you have done. Otherwise, it may be more than 49.2 percent in two years!

Cook column is wrong; domestic partners = sin

Mr. Cook, your column in the Chattanooga Times Free Press was blasphemy! God will not be mocked! All sin must be paid for; remember Sodom and Gomorrah? Domestic partners or whatever is sin and will be accounted for. We know the time is quickly approaching when Jesus will return, and the devil is working hard to deceive all. In the Middle East, hundreds of Christians are being killed, and atheists are working hard in America. Sir, you wrote over 560 words in your article on Aug. 8. I have 200 words or less. I can sum it all up with this: Ask God to forgive you, repent and be saved through Jesus Christ, or burn in hell!

HUGH M. TUCKER, Hixson

Evil on the march against Christians

Christians in Iraq: beheaded, raped and hung. Christians in Nigeria: kidnapped, enslaved and murdered. Christianity in many Muslim countries: outlawed and believers persecuted, jailed and sometimes put to death. There is an underlying question here. Would I rather have a religion that teaches me to hate and kill or one that teaches me to love and forgive my enemies? Do I want a god who asks me to do detestable things to gain his favor or the God who gave his only son to die for the sins of the world? May America awaken from her slumber and pray against this evil that is marching relentlessly throughout the nations of the world.

" Ask God to forgive you, repent and be saved through Jesus Christ, or burn in hell!" HUGH M. TUCKER, Hixson

Actually, Mr. Smith, people are seeing the ignorance in the belief of fundamentalism, that the Bible is poorly-written fiction, taking older myths, changing a few names and places. The Bible is not true, literal, and inerrant. It is just a collection of man-made sectarian stories not to be taken literally.

But I understand your position. Unless you keep preaching that BS you'll be out of a job and your pitiful little power to control others through fear of imaginary gods.

Mr. Tucker, there is no hell other than being surrounded by religious fundamentalists. No everlasting fire, no suffering, no weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth. No heaven either. There's time for you to repent of your ignorance and enjoy the only life you'll ever have — this one. Yet I think you enjoy pointing your boney finger at others, screaming "Jesus Loves You So Much He'll Burn your babies and children in hell!" Nothing like that goofy Fundy-NutZ deranged "love" you claim.

But feel free to post your evidence of hell. I'm always up for a hearty laugh.

Thanks Smith and Tucker for again showing why fundamentalism doesn't belong in public schools and government.

Ignorance of the Bible, indeed. That starts with the widespread ignorance about how the Bible came to be. It is a collection of folk tales, all spun, and re-spun, by mere humans. None of it was written by "God." One might give as much credence to Grimm's fairytales or Mother Goose.

"Today, the majority of people have such an ignorance of the Bible that they accept homosexuality fully." Rev. Bill Smith

Actually Mr. Smith, the majority of ignorance about the BIble comes from your fellow fundamentalists.

Anyone literate who reads the entire Bible, not just the malarky you preach, will see the preposterous claims and utter nonsense of a Jehovah and Jesus as anything but man-made creations.

But go ahead and defend your pretend Jehovah's use of rape, torture, incest, and genocide. You call such atrocities evidence of Jehovah's love.

Today we call Jehovah's actions criminal, worthy of prosecution for war crimes, and would happily hang the old bugger as was rightfully done to Nazi and Japanese war criminals.

So yes, please read the Bible, think about it, compare it to commonsense and reason, and prepare to laugh your ass off at the absurdity of its claims.

Then put that ignorance behind you and breathe the fresh air of deliverance from the evils of religious fundamentalism.

Dear Ms. Sandra Hills,

I would kindly like to point out to you that Islam is a religion of peace, contrary to the implications of you letter, where I quote "Would I rather have a religion that teaches me to hate and kill or one that teaches me to love and forgive my enemies?"

Our religion also teaches us to love and care for everybody in the world. Your accusations to the religion of Islam have no textual backings. The actions committed by Those people is not the actions that the Holy Quran or the Holy Prophet encourage.

It's easy to sleep in when one is not full of the superstitious clap-trap fundamentalism of Christianity.

Unlike you, we suffer no guilt from being born, ignore your imaginary gods and their foolishness, and laugh at you and your prophets suffering from mental atrophy.

Life is good without gods.

Ms. Sandra Haris of cloudsprings /gawgi fails to mention that chris'tians in those regions influenced and encouraged by western and european evangelism were raping, beheading and slaughtering Muslims in the middle east and many African nations long before those Muslims began to fight back. Before European and western influence Muslims and chr'stians lived side by side for the most part and even married. Then came the evangelicals teaching from the story of King Saul and other brutal portions of the western/European bible. The Rwanda genocide of the Tutsi tribe carried out by the Hutu is a prime example of how the west use missionaries to go into other countries dividing the masses against one another in order to weaken countries in preparation to invade them and control their natural resources.

They eat blood-tainted feces

You just ask yourself, should people who did not choose the homosexual lifestyle have to pay? Homosexuals [Multitudes, not all] are by far the greatest category of 'human beings' who enjoy intimacy with feces. I'm talking about human excrement! Do we want to have our hard-earned tax money pay for the plethora of opportunist infections resulting from homosexuals ingesting poo-poo? No, we do not, I repeat, 'do not' even want to be 'in any way' associated with these people!

Just take a look at the following scientific study:

The National Institute of Health found that at least one-sixth of homosexual men like to suck/eat blood and feces-entrenched semen out of their homosexual sex partner's anus/rectum.

Abstract: National Institute of Health Felching (sucking or eating semen out of someone's anus) is a sexual behavior about which virtually nothing has been written in the scholarly literature, despite the fact that it appears to be a not-uncommon practice among certain subpopulations of men who have sex with men (MSM/(Homosexuals). [They also dig the stuff out from their lower bowels/intestine with their tongues]. You know they get sick/diseased. And then, they want us to pay their insurance. ..HIV/AIDS>GUT PARASITES>>Many N.A.M.B.L.A.{HOMOSEXUALS} want to have sexual intercourse with your little boys; ruin their anatomy and life.

SultanH, your “Holy” Quran is filled with as many contradictions and absurdities as the Christian Bible. And just as the Christians do, you Muslims cherry-pick those parts of it that you CHOOSE to ascribe to. You say that “The actions committed by those people (fundamentalist Muslims who believe in a literal jihad against infidels) is not the actions that the Holy Quran or the Holy Prophet encourage;” but in fact there is a vastly large portion of the Quran that encourages and sanctions hatred, misogyny, bigotry, primitive and torturous punishment of the slightest offenses, and even the killing of non-believers. You have either not read your “Holy” Quran objectively and in full, or you are simply turning a blind eye to those parts that are the antithesis of holy.

Neither the Bible nor the Quran is holy. They are fictitious books filled with nonsensical ancient myths and a smattering of proverbs and aphorisms of questionable wisdom. It is good that you do not focus on the BS within your “holy” book, but don't pretend that there is nothing within it that doesn't encourage hatred among a large portion of the adherents of Islam, in much the same way that so much of the Bible encourages the Christian fundamentalists to be arrogant, small minded, and hateful, all in the name of their religion and their "holy" Bible.

"They eat blood-tainted feces"

Say Orr, aren't you the one that claims he eats the flesh and drinks the blood of Jesus every week?

Cannibals for Christ?

"We Preach Christ Crucified, Battered, and Fried! Delicious and Only 200 Calories Per Serving!"

"Ask about our Christ-to-Go box. Eat Him Now or Eat Him Later. He's Great on Crackers. Kids love Christ as an afternoon snack."

"And now we have Diet Christ for fat-assed Southern Baptist preachers and hanky-waving Hugely Obese Gospel singers. Same great taste, but less than 100 calories per serving of flesh. For those that like the blood of Jesus but find it too heavy with fish we now have the Plasma of Christ with a touch of Splenda. Perfect for entertaining at your Last Supper."

Orr has proven himself to be a habitual liar time and time again. Orr has lied about being a credentialed mental health therapist and scientist. Orr has joked about AIDS patients dying. Orr has repeatedly approved of Jehovah's use of slavery, rape, killing of innocent men, women, and children, incest, and genocide of countless millions.

No matter how Orr dresses himself up in what he calls the glory of Jehovah's love, he's still feeds in the pig trough of hate and anti-humanity. Orr's self-deluded sickness is visible, palpable, and simply dangerous to life.

I use Orr and Conservative to teach kids about the dangers of religious fundamentalism, close-minded dogmatic cults, and how much of fundamentalism is toxic to progress.

But that doesn't mean we can't laugh at them.

How many Fundy-NutZ does it take to change a lightbulb? None. They prefer darkness to light, ignorance to illumination, and cowering fear to life-sustaining freedom.

Claims to be "property manager" for the Chattanooga office of REWA Theological Seminary, 117 Lee Parkway Drive, Suite 103, Chattanooga 37421 - another tendril of xtian cultism that seeks to attack the people of Andra Pradesh state in India whose Hindu population has the audacity to embrace a cultism that does not recognize the myth of Jeebus and the attendant cult of "slavery, rape, killing of innocent men, women, and children, incest, and genocide of countless millions" which they refer to as "god's love" (thanks, AYB).

If you look at Orr's TFP profile he now claims now to be a 'missionary to India" yet I'm betting he's never been, isn't now, or ever will be in India.

Next, Orr will claim to be an astronaut because he once visited the Space Museum in Huntsville.

More appropriately his occupation should read, "Misanthropic Liar for Jesus, pretend mental health therapist, phony scientist, armchair missionary, and very poor writer."

Orr — another reason to laugh at the absurdities of fundamentalism.

John 3:16 is supposedly the cornerstone of Christianity, but it is actually a meaningless verse. If God is omniscient, as all Christians believe he is, then he knew the outcome of his "divine" plan of salvation all along. And if you know you are going to get something back, then where is the sacrifice? What sort and degree of love is involved if you are not really sacrificing anything but only going through some charade? Jesus is supposedly up in heaven right now, reunited with his Old Man, after spending a mere 33 years on this earth and 3 days of supposed death. God knew Jesus was going to be resurrected. So, again, where was this precious sacrifice of love that you Christians like to keep going on about?

Primitive peoples believed that the gods were appeased by the blood of animal and human sacrifice, so what better and more ultimate way to appease God than through the sacrifice of his own son! The whole concept of salvation through blood sacrifice might sound good, but it rings hollow and is actually quite silly, if you really think about it.

You Christians need to get a grip on reality. It isn't hard to do. It doesn't take a lot of smarts to see the absurdity and nonsense of the Bible, just some good ol' common sense.
