Transitions

• The Rev. David Carter, who has been parochial administrator of the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul, has been named rector of the church; Monsignor George Schmidt, longtime pastor of the basilica, retired in November and is now pastor emeritus.

• The Rev. Mike Nolan and the Rev. Joseph Thomas have been named pastor and parochial vicar, respectively, of St. Therese of Lisieux in Cleveland, Tenn. the Rev. Manuel Perez has become pastor of St. Stephen Church, the Rev. Tom Moser has become pastor of St. Catherine Laboure in Copperhill, Tenn., and the Rev. Tony Budnick will become chaplain and faculty member at Notre Dame High School this month and be a part-time associate pastor at St. Peter and Paul Basilica; Monsignor Xavier Mankel and the Rev. Joseph Brando, both of whom have served area churches, have retired.

• Thad Kay has been hired as pastor of First Baptist Church of Chickamauga, the Rev. Michael Smith has resigned as pastor of New Harvest Baptist Church in LaFayette, Ga., and become pastor of Dry Valley Baptist in Rossville.
