Members of the Crabb family - the Southern gospel greats - seem to do things in multiples: perform together, win awards, found festivals.

The latest on the resumé from the family patriarch is Gerald Crabb's Gospel Fest, a Southern gospel music festival debuting this weekend in Dalton, Ga. According to Crabb, it will be "very similar to the Crabb Fest that was held in years past in Owensboro, Ky."

In the mid 1990s, according to family history, Crabb Fest was launched in a church parking lot and grew into a major, four-day event with the Saturday night attendances reaching 5,000 or more. The concerts featured some of the top acts in gospel music, and several artists, such as Joseph Habedank and Josh Franks, were discovered at Crabb Fest talent contests.

"Everyone looked forward to Crabb Fest each year," Crabb says. "It was a great time to fellowship with one another and to be spiritually uplifted as well as a time to enjoy great music. I believe Southern gospel music fans are going to love that we are bringing back the spirit of Crabb Fest to our new event."

Activities include morning worship with special guests, artist seminars, afternoon showcases with regional artists, a talent search and evening concerts. Gerald and three of his children are scheduled for appearances.

The opening concert tonight, Aug. 28, will feature Grammy Award-winning artist Jason Crabb. On Friday evening, Aug. 29, Adam Crabb, the Gaither Vocal Band's new lead singer, and Terah Crabb Penhollow will perform, along with the duo Josh and Ashley Franks. The schedule Saturday, Aug. 30, includes the award-winning Jeff and Sheri Easter, The Freemans and Weston & Christy Hinson. On Sunday morning, Aug. 31, Gerald Crabb will wrap up the weekend with a prayer breakfast and concert.
