Tidwell thanks staff, and supporters

Thank you to everyone who supported me in the recent August election, my stalwart friends, my earnest campaign committee, my tireless volunteers, my generous contributors and all those who voted. Thank you to my family. You always have my back, and I'm so grateful. We may not always agree, but we do love each other and do our best to help each other. Not every family can say that, but I'm happy we can. Thank you to the world's best staff, a group of people I had the privilege of working beside. You all know my feelings about how important education and lifelong learning are, and each of you taught me something. We enjoyed virtually no turnover, and I hope that will continue. For those who stay and those who move on to other careers I wish you the best. Finally, thank you to the county. You raised me, educated me and allowed me to work for you. Rest assured I intend to stay involved and continue helping however I can. It has been an incredible honor to be your Criminal Court clerk for the last 20 years. I thoroughly enjoyed working for you. What a blessing it's all been!

GWEN TIDWELL, County Court clerk

Leviticus Rules Not Relevant In 2014

As a follower of Christ who happens to be gay, I find the "Target, Others Wrong On Same-Sex Marriage" letter to the editor laughable. "Christians" apparently are only able to read certain verses in Leviticus. I invite everyone to read the rest of the book, as well as the rest of the Bible. Looking at the Bible through Caucasian, 2014 eyes is an awful practice and shows just how much ignorance is rampant in the South. It's called context. I'm not Hebrew. Those laws were for a group of people trying to establish an identity in a new region. Those laws aren't for me. Even though it wasn't mentioned, let's talk New Testament. Paul is speaking about the pitfalls of idolatry. I attend church every Sunday, worshipping the same God. Still gay. Bigots, get some new lines. Yours are tired.
