Soddy-Daisy moved to 2-0 with its 43-30 victory, the Trojans' third consecutive win in the series.
"I started to relax when we got up 19-0 in the first quarter, but Red Bank is a good football team and they rolled right back," said Maynor, who had five TD passes eight days ago in a win over Hixson. "I didn't really relax finally until we got the ball back with less than two minutes left."
Friday, he completed 17 of 27 passes with a touchdown tosses to Levi Thornton and Chase Payne and three to versatile Tre Carter, who also plays in the secondary and punts.
"Hunter is a great kid, a great player, and he's playing tremendously right now," said Soddy-Daisy coach Justin Barnes, a former quarterback standout at Red Bank. "He has improved so much from last year. The difference is night and day. He's calm out there and he knows where to go with the football."
The game, Red Bank's first home event of the year, kicked off the school's 75th-year celebration, but Barnes and assistant coach Tyler Rich, each a Red Bank alumnus, had no mixed emotions.
"Well, Red Bank's the last team you want to lose to, but I still want them to do well," Barnes said. "I told somebody earlier this week I'd like to see them go 9-1. But when they stepped on the field, it was just another team."
Despite Soddy-Daisy's 19-0 start, the game was still very much a toss-up by halftime with the Lions within a pair of scores at 37-22. They just wouldn't go away.
"The clock couldn't run fast enough," Barnes said.
Red Bank rallied but never got closer than 37-30 with 9:52 to play in the third quarter.
"We just made too many mistakes," Red Bank coach Chad Grabowski said. "We have to fix the little things. We're still in the building process. We're getting there; we just have to take another step."
While Maynor had another outstanding showing, so did running back Christian Bell, who scored a TD while rushing for 199 yards -- his second straight 100-yard performance -- and Carter finished with six catches for 138 yards.
Red Bank quarterback Caleb Tate also had a good night, completing 22 of 30 passes for 228 yards. He had TD passes to Ben Brown and Kendrick Wilbacks.
