A single-vehicle crash Monday night on I-24 near Cummings Road resulted in the death of one of the passengers.

James D. Ledford, 69, who was a rear passenger, died at a hospital from injuries he received in the crash.

Chattanooga police said the vehicle, a GMC Envoy, was traveling east on I-24 when the driver lost control and struck a guardrail.

The vehicle left the roadway and then struck a tree before it came to rest, police said.

The investigation is continuing, police said.
