Cleveland State's Cougars clip Chattanooga State Tigers in overtime, 93-85

Cleveland State's Cougars pulled out a 93-85 overtime win in TCCAA basketball Saturday afternoon at Chattanooga State, after the host Lady Tigers beat the Lady Cougars 77-62.

The Cougars overcame a 53-43 deficit to improve to 11-9, 6-8 in the league, behind 24 points from Keevin Tyus, 17 from Robert Brandon, 16 from Travis Wildgoose and 14 by Jackie Hale. Simon Clifford added 10 in the win.

Orlandis Jackson had 16 points and Billy Hughes and Ronald Jones added 15 and 14 for the Tigers (10-10, 4-8).

Amber Howard's 24 points led the Lady Tigers (12-11, 8-6) to victory, while LaKendria Williams scored 14 and Tariana Carter and Cierra Gordon added 12 and 10. Jara Gasper scored 20 to lead the Lady Cougars (16-6, 8-6), and Jamesha Mosley scored 16.

The Chattanooga State women had an early 14-2 run and benefited particularly from an 18-4 surge beginning the second half. Howard scored 16 of her points after halftime.

* Lee 75, Union University 63: At Cleveland, veteran Flames Cory Billingsley and Brice Sharp scored 16 and 14 points and Chad Lee, Jamal Worthington and Tyquan Roberts also reached double figures in the Gulf South Conference victory. Roberts had a game-high eight rebounds with his 11 points for Lee (8-11, 4-9). Corieon Pearson scored a game-high 23 points for Union (10-10, 6-8).

* Lee (w) 70, Union 65: The Lady Flames pulled out their eighth win in a row and rose to 15-4 overall and 11-2 in the Gulf South by holding off an old NAIA rival. Hollie German was 6-of-9 on 3-point shots in scoring 26 points, and Jenna Adams and Rachel Lockhart added 14 and 12 points with 10 rebounds apiece in the victory. Astrid Huttemann had 18 points and seven rebounds and Amy Philamlee had 15 points and four assists for Union (15-5, 10-4).

* Milligan 88, Bryan 65: At Milligan College, Tenn., the fifth-place Buffaloes scored the first 10 points and took a 17-2 lead on the way to routing the fourth-place Lions in the Appalachian Athletic Conference game. Mickey Woods scored 21 points and Morgan McLeod and Torian Sitton had 18 and 17 with eight and six rebounds for Milligan (15-8, 9-6).

Brandon Cole had 19 points and 14 reoubnds and Caleb Tuck scored 15 points for Bryan (14-11, 9-5). Also in the AAC, Tennessee Wesleyan improved to 14-11, 10-5 with an 83-67 defeat of visiting St. Andrews.

* Bryan (w) 75, Milligan 70: The third-place Lady Lions prevailed behind 17 points and 11 rebounds from Kristin Lane and 14 points and nine rebounds from Megan Billingsby. Jena Ray added 13 points for Bryan (17-8, 12-4), while Chelsey Weddle led the Lady Buffs (15-10, 11-6) with 15 points and eight rebounds.

Tennessee Wesleyan's first-place women, ranked No. 20 in NAIA Division II, beat St. Andrews 73-48. The Lady Bulldogs now are 19-3, 14-2.
