Dan Duff is returning to Hixson High to coach football. Duff coached the Wildcats from 1996-2002 before leaving to take over the program at Rockmart (Ga.), and led Hixson to its first playoff appearance during his first stint.

The Wildcats went on to advance to the playoffs four times under Duff, including a trip to the quarterfinals in 1998.

"We're very excited to have Dan back here where he accomplished so many great things before," Hixson athletic director Brian Bray said. "He's energized to be back and the great thing is he knows the community and the school already, so we believe he will pick up right where (former coach) Jason Fitzgerald left off."

Fitzgerald resigned after two years at Hixson to take over at Meigs County, which is closer to his home.
