Crash, then drowning claims lives of an infant and a child in Bledsoe

A tragic crash Monday night in rural Bledsoe County claimed the lives of an infant and a child and injured their mother.

Two other children survived without injuries, according to Tennessee Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Bill Miller.

The accident off of Wooden Loop Road happened between 8:30 and 8:45 p.m. CST, officials said.

Reports state 6-week-old Emoch James Einwechter and his sister, Susan Elise Einwechter, 3, were killed when the 1999 Ford Explorer they were riding in overturned into a pond on Hoffmann Drive in the New Harmony community of Eastern Bledsoe County, Miller said.

The two children were trapped inside and drowned.

Two other children, Titus Dietrich Einwechter, 1, and Jonathan David Einwechter, 2, were uninjured in the accident.

Reports state the children's 24-year-old mother, Monique H. Einwechter, was traveling down a one lane drive that crosses a dam when the vehicle ran off the road into an adjacent pond and overturned onto its top.

"My understanding is the troopers are trying to talk to the mother," Miller said, "but I don't know if she conscious or able to talk to them."

No alcohol or drugs are suspected in the accident and no charges have been filed, according to officials.

The investigation is ongoing and the bodies of the two children who were killed have been sent for autopsies, Miller said.

"It's a very tragic situation," Miller said.
