Brandon Cole's fifth time to be the Appalachian Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the week this season turned into the NAIA Division II national honor for the Bryan College sophomore from Crossville, Tenn. His improbable season-long stats for a stocky 6-foot-2 post player include averages of 26.10 points and 12.14 rebounds a game, the latter a national high, and he exceeded those in three games last week with 36.3 points and 15 rebounds. He had career highs of 40 points and 23 rebounds in a 75-74 loss to Montreat and 36 points and 15 rebounds in an 82-73 loss to league champion Union College, and then his three-point play in the closing seconds gave the Lions a 70-69 win over Truett-McConnell in which he totaled 33 points and 10 rebounds. Cole has scored at least 20 points in 25 of the Lions' 29 games. They face Milligan this morning at 10:15 in the AAC tournament in Kingsport, Tenn. Cole also made the five-man All-AAC first team announced Wednesday, along with Tennessee Wesleyan's Tyler Burse. TWC's Shannon Smith made the men's third team, and Bryan's Derrick Walker was an all-defensive selection.

n The third-seeded Bryan women's basketball team plays tonight at 9:15 in the AAC tournament against sixth seed Reinhardt, which beat ninth seed St. Andrews 77-58 on Wednesday. April Besley from Dalton had four assists and freshman Payton Smith from Sonoraville was still sidelined with an ankle injury. Smith made the AAC all-freshman team, along with Bryan's Megan Billingsby and Kristin Lane, and Smith, Besley and Wesleyan's Shira Buley joined defensive player of the year Keila Formont from Bryan on the all-defensive team. Jeff Rice and Armeka Booker from TWC were the coach and overall player of the year, and Chattanoogan Kayla Kelly from Milligan joined Booker on the All-AAC first team. Buley and TWC's Cody Houck were second-teamers, and Bryan's Formont and Lane were third-team picks.

Baseball

• Logan Dalton was 4-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored and David Donald had three hits and three RBIs as Tennessee Wesleyan edged visiting Lindsey Wilson 11-9 in NAIA baseball Wednesday. Matt Malloy and James Boddicker also had three hits apiece for TWC (6-7-1). For the Kentucky team, Derek Shugart was 3-for-3 with four runs and an RBI, and Mitchel Osnowitz was 3-for-4 with four RBIs.

• Cleveland State edged Georgia Perimeter 3-2 in 10 innings before losing 15-1 to the Jaguars in junior college baseball Tuesday. Zack Janes was 2-for-3 and Evan Speicher and Dalton Rogers each was 2-for-5 with a double in the first game for Cleveland State (9-5), which got the winning RBI from Chris Caffrey in support of the five-hit pitching of Jake Wright, Raunel Perez and Brandon Leonard (1-0). Wright struck out seven in allowing four hits and two runs, one earned, in 6 1/3 innings. London Lindley was 3-for-4 and scored a run for Georgia Perimeter and then scored three in game two, when Austin Simmons hit a grand slam. Speicher was 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Cougars.

Softball

• Jesse Giles and Meg Macias combined to go 4-for-5 and drive in seven runs in the first game and Dominique Hannah and Lexie Dean each was 4-for-4 while Ana Coscorrosa had three RBIs in the rematch as the Lee University softball team won 12-11 and 10-2 over visiting Tennessee Wesleyan on Tuesday. Coscorrosa and Macias each scored three runs and Dean tallied two in game one, and Amanda Lynn and Dean scored three apiece in game two, when freshman Hailey Clark pitched a five-inning three-hitter after getting the first-game win in relief for Lee (7-9). Clark had three hits and three RBIs in the doubleheader. Macias was 2-for-2 with a home run in the opener, when Brandi Lasley was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Stacie Nelson, Stephanie Bridges and Calli Cross each drove in two runs for TWC (1-7). Bridges was 2-for-3 and Brooke Ward and Lindsay Arndts each had two hits and matched Lasley's two runs scored. Ward and Arndts had the Lady Bulldogs' RBIs in game two; Ward tripled.
