Off-duty Memphis officer dies in crash

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis police say an off-duty officer has died after his truck hit a pole on Interstate 55.

Police spokeswoman Alyssa Macon-Moore says officers responded to a one-vehicle traffic crash on I-55 northbound on Wednesday night.

Officers found a Chevrolet Silverado had a struck a pole.

The driver was identified as 39-year-old Johnathan Jones, a Memphis police officer. He was transported to the Regional Medical Center, where he died.

Jones had been with the force since July 2003.
