HAMPTON, Va. - The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga posted a 1-1 first-day record at the Virginia Duals wrestling tournament. The Mocs blistered Arizona State 35-7 in their opening match but then lost a close one, 18-13, to host Virginia, which had a first-round bye.

UTC (7-5) was a single win away from a second victory in the event. In addition to Virginia losing a team point for unsportsmanlike conduct, UTC picked up just one bonus-point win, that by Nick Soto with a 10-2 major decision. Also, fourth-ranked 165-pounder Corey Mock suffered his first loss, falling 10-6 to Nickolas Sulzer.

Newly enrolled Dawson Peck won his first two matches as a Moc at 285 pounds.

The Mocs had most everything fall their way against Arizona State, winning eight of the 10 matches including bonus performances by Soto, Mike Pongracz, Shawn Greevy, Mock, Levi Clemons and Scottie Boykins.

UTC will return to the mat at 9 this morning to wrestle Lock Haven State. With a win the Mocs would face the winner between Bloomsburg State and Nebraska-Kearney.
