Georgia is expected to announce Jeremy Pruitt as its new defensive coordinator.

Pruitt spent this past season at Florida State, where he helped lead the Seminoles to their first national championship since 1999. He came to FSU after spending three seasons as Alabama's secondary coach, so he has been on the staff of the past three national champions.

The Bulldogs have been seeking a defensive coordinator since Todd Grantham left this past weekend for the same job at Louisville. Grantham was making $850,000 annually at Georgia, and Pruitt is expected to make around the same.

Before he was a full-time coach for Nick Saban, Pruitt served as the Crimson Tide's director of player development.

Pruitt played at Plainview High in Rainsville, Ala., before signing with Middle Tennessee State, where he competed for two seasons in the secondary before transferring to Alabama. He was a backup for the Tide under Gene Stallings in 1995-96.

After beginning his coaching career as a student-assistant at Alabama under Mike DuBose in 1997, Pruitt spent eight of the next nine years working in high schools. The one exception was 1999, when he was secondary coach at West Alabama.

Pruitt helped guide Hoover to 6A state titles in 2004-05.
