Hamilton County Commissioners today voted to pay a $180,000 settlement to a former health department employee who sued the county for alleged wrongful termination.

Assistant County Attorney Dee Hobbs said the settlement with former employee Nancy Beckham was reached through joint mediation.

The county still maintains it did nothing wrong, Hobbs said the settlement is in the best interest of residents.

Commissioners also voted to pay Carolina Casualty $58,240 for 2003 renovations to Soddy Daisy High School. The company that did the work went out of business shortly there after, and courts decided Carolina Casualty should be awarded the payment.
