A Chattanooga motel damaged by a fire early this morning had no working smoke alarms in the entire building, according to the Chattanooga Fire Department.

A fire on the third floor room at the Country Hearth Inn and Suites in Chattanooga caused about $20,000 in damage in two suites, according to a news release.

The fire broke out around 2 a.m. in an unoccupied room at the 101 E. 20th Street inn.

The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
