Man shot, killed during dispute
ATHENS, Tenn. - A 49-year-old Athens man was shot dead Tuesday by his nephew, authorities said.
Around 2 p.m. that day a sheriff's deputy spoke with William Goins, 27, at his home about his ongoing dispute with Tabitha Ghorley, his cousin who also lived at the home.
About 15 minutes after the deputy left, Tabitha Ghorley arrived at the home with her father, Bobby Ghorley, McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy said.
A physical confrontation broke out between Bobby Ghorley and Billy Goins, William's father. During the struggle William Goins pulled out a small-caliber handgun and shot Bobby Ghorley, the sheriff said.
Sheriff's deputies and EMS units responded within minutes, and William Goins surrendered without resisting. Bobby Ghorley was pronounced dead at the scene.
William Goins is charged with second-degree murder and has been booked into the McMinn County Justice Center with no bond set.
Free Hartsfield Wi-Fi planned
ATLANTA - Atlanta airport officials plan to seek approval for improvements that would pave the way for free Wi-Fi for travelers.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport plans to seek approval for a wireless Internet infrastructure upgrade contract.
The Atlanta City Council could approve the contract later this month. Reese McCranie said that if that happens, the free Wi-Fi could be ready to launch by the end of March.
Authorities say the airport could be able to support as many as 15,000 Wi-Fi users at once when the system is running.
Parks offer free admission day
Admission to all 401 national parks, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Atlanta, will be free Monday.
The National Park Service said in a release that admission to the parks will be waived in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Other parks directly associated with King include the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail in Alabama and the National Mall and Memorial Parks in Washington, D.C., which includes the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial where Dr. King made his "I Have a Dream" speech in 1963.
School secretary charged in theft
MEMPHIS - Prosecutors say a former bookkeeper at a suburban Shelby County high school has been charged with stealing more than $140,000 from the school.
Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich said Wednesday that 48-year-old Toni J. Cox has been indicted on a charge of felony theft of property over $60,000.
Weirich said state comptroller's office auditors found that $142,307 was missing from Arlington High School's funds between July 2008 and June 2010.
