about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

And who was it that broadened the surveillance powers of NSA?

In the days after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, American telephone companies offered the National Security Agency access to domestic calling records and their own analysis of calling patterns, a top-secret document shows.

At first, the NSA could not accept the help because it did not have the legal authority to collect data domestically. That changed on Oct. 4, when President George W. Bush gave his approval for what became known in classified circles as the President’s Surveillance Program, or PSP.

Good cartoon today Mr. Bennett. Well said EaTn.

George Orwell's book 1984 was written, as was Animal Farm, as works of fiction. Sadly, I believe that classification is no longer applicable and should be relocated to the non-fiction section of our libraries.

Thought-provoking to ponder how much Edward Snowden and a certain protagonist from Animal Farm have in common. The allegory is a bit spooky.

”As the animals look from pigs to humans, they realize they can no longer distinguish between the two.”

All our President did yesterday was reword and keep the same policy in place. "Doublespeak." I guess in the most technical sense "reword" is "reform," but the NSA program is still alive and kicking, and your cell phone is hot.

His noble idea is "trust the government" and while we may be able to do that in his tenure (not a certainty), history has proven that if you give that kind of surveillance power to an agency it will use it for its own nefarious purposes. The man whose holiday marks his time tomorrow is a good example of how J Edgar used his power against people.

Few presidents give up power seized by predecessors.

Hmm, I just thought of something. Didn’t the (ptui)DHS come out with a catchy phrase like, ”If you see something say something?” Well Edward Snowden did – didn’t he!!

Obama’s reforms -

First reform: I'm proud to announce the formation of a new Privacy Rights Commission, which will include Constitutional scholars and national security experts, who will provide oversight for the intelligence community. This commission will provide me with regular (non-binding) updates which I'll ignore; just like I've ignored privacy violations for the last 5 years.

Second reform: Classified data will no longer be supplied to employees that look like Edward Snowden.

Third reform: The NSA will henceforth employ better liars.

The only difference between Obama and what a Republican president would have done in this case is that he didn’t include a tax cut - or invade another country.

We have to assume he will watch the news to find out if his edict is effective and his instructions followed since that seems to be his way of learning about serious events.

However less than two years later it was mostly gone and he lost to, at that time in 1991, a little known Arkansas governor. New York Gov. The man who knew too much? The truth about the death of Hillary Clinton's close friend Vince Foster

"According to White House chronicler Bob Woodward, she "frequently reduced her personal travelling aide to tears" when the assistant failed to produce something Hillary needed. She had a temper, but instead of "making nice" afterwards, as Bill did, Hillary withdrew in cool silence. "One time, Hillary said: 'Mel, your problem is you just aren't mean enough,'" recalled her friend Mary Mel French."

Can't stand being a small, unimportant person when you just know in your heart of hearts you're somehow better than her, can you? She may just end up being your President, toes! She'll be in the history books long after we're all dead and gone. Libraries, statues, airports named for her. You'll just leave a carbon footprint two times as big as the value this old world got from you. She's big time, toes... big time.

She's a worn-out old hag. She's been rode hard and put away wet. She's still pissed off at Obama for stealing her thunder. Nothing but a bitter old crone who stuck with a womanizing pervert just for political gain. A great role model for your daughters out there.

Man, If I don't get a library or an airport named after me, I don't know WHAT I'll do!!
