Bonnaroo issues call to artists

Thursday, January 23, 2014

Wednesday, Jan. 29, has been set as the application deadline for a Bonnaroo-themed art exhibition at the Nashville International Airport.

In the partnership between the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival and the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority, artists are being asked to submit proposals for three large displays that will be suspended from the skylights in the airport's three concourses.

The display will start May 12 and continue through Jan. 26, 2015. The finished pieces will represent the largest Arts at the Airport skylight display since the program's inception 25 years ago. The terminal and surrounding facilities were designed to incorporate rotating public art exhibits and permanent acquisitions.

Artists are being asked for proposals that include iconic festival elements, a nod to Bonnaroo's home base in Manchester, Tenn., and recognition of the festival's 2014 lineup, which has not yet been announced. Proposals for site-specific sculptures or kinetic mobiles will be accepted until Jan. 29. Selections will be made by Feb. 14, and the selected pieces will be installed between April 28 and May 9. Each artist will receive a $3,000 honorarium.
