You don’t have to be able to shred snow to enjoy the snowboard competition returning to Mellow Mushroom Waterside on Saturday, Jan. 25. It’s enough if you just want to play in the white stuff.

According to Chattanooga Rail Jam organizers, 6 tons of snow will transform the gourmet pizza restaurant’s parking lot into a winter wonderland, complete with a snowboard park for those who want to compete for prizes.

There are three categories of competition: men, women and youth (ages 12-16). Participants will be competing for a snowboard plus prize packs from the two sponsors, Mellow Mushroom and Dodge City Ski. Winners will be determined by a judging panel of local celebrities.

DJ Scuba Steve will provide entertainment.

Admission is free, but guests are encouraged to make $5 donations to Tennessee Riverkeeper, an environmental watchdog group for the Tennessee River and its tributaries. Each person who donates will receive a voucher for a complimentary draft beer, cocktail or, for underage guests, a free slice of pizza from the restaurant’s Bake Bus.

The event will showcase a craft beer bar from Budweiser of Chattanooga, a Jack Daniel’s whiskey bar from Chattanooga Whiskey, a Three Olives vodka bar and a wine sampling garden from Gnarly Head Wines.

Last year’s inaugural event was attended by more than 1,000 people, according to organizers.
