Under Construction: Retail space in Hixson to be ready in March

Owner: Carolina Holdings, Inc., Greeneville, S.C.

Cost: $2.2 million investment by Carolina Holdings, Inc.

Location: 5528 Highway 153 in Hixson.

Architect: McMillan Pazdan Smith, Greenville, S.C.

Engineer: LeCraw Engineering, Suwanee, Ga.

Size: 4,500 square feet, on two acres.

History: Land was sold to the state of Tennessee in 1961 by Leonard and Syble Hamil. Tennessee Department of Agriculture used the site as office space before the land was auctioned in 2013. Carolina Holdings purchased the land and did lot improvements, including excavation and construction of retail space for a company whose name has not been released.

Timeline: Construction should be finished by mid to late March.
