Advanced Foot Care keeps feet healthy for summer

Putting your best foot forward can be easier thanks to the professionals at Advanced Foot Care.

With six offices in the Chattanooga area, the local practice offers quality foot care and has been in the business for more than 20 years. Drs. Kimberly Wilkins and Rachna Gupta, both DPMs, are the newest members of the Advanced Foot Care family, and they bring with them great experience and knowledge.

"During the summer, toenail fungus can be one of the most difficult ailments to get rid of," said Dr. Wilkins. "The best and most effective way to treat it and take care of the problem is with our new toenail laser."

The device is the Noveon NaiLaser, and Advanced Foot Care now has it available for patients. Dr. Wilkins said it takes three treatments, and patients have great results.

"There's a very high success rate with this procedure," Dr. Gupta agreed. "It's painless, and is very effective with all types of toenail fungus."

Before treatment, doctors take a nail biopsy to determine the type of toenail fungus a patient has, then send that off to be sure it's a type that will respond well to the laser. Each treatment session

with the laser typically lasts around 30 minutes, and patients can look forward to no recovery period and no side effects, the doctors said.

"I am so pleased with the treatment I have received at Advanced Foot Care," said patient Patricia Mitchell. "After only two laser treatments for a fungal infection on one toenail, I see a huge difference. The treatment only takes 16 minutes, and there is no pain involved."

In addition to cutting-edge technology and friendly care, Advanced Foot Care offers an in-house shop for foot care wear and accessories including Dr.'s Remedy nail polish, which offers ladies a healthier option for their pedicures during the summer months, said Dr. Wilkins.

"We also advise certain steps for pedicures during the season," she added. Do's for pedicures include bringing personal pedicure utensils to the salon to help avoid bacteria spreading; using a pumice stone, foot file or exfoliating sponge to remove dead skin; and gently rubbing a wooden or rubber manicure stick under the toenails to help remove dirt and other particles that may not be seen.

Pedicure don'ts include shaving before you receive a pedicure; allowing foot salons to use a foot razor to remove dead skin; and applying nail polish to cover up discolored nails, which is a sign of infection.
