The Casket

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

I don't think the UAW is giving up and it's starting to make some people nervous again. A voluntary union sounds like a nice idea that works very well in many places.

Volkswagen STILL hasn't made any announcements, so all these Republican politicians are up to their necks in promises that have not come to fruition...yet.

Senator Corker's ass is on the line, and even he's got to be getting nervous at this point and time, because Volkswagen isn't following lock step behind all these Tennessee Republicans, and it is funny as hell to witness.

Corker put it all on the line with his involvement in trying to dispatch the union.

I wouldn't want to be where he is at the moment. He's put way too many eggs of credibility into one basket.

I doubt VW would recognize any union without the majority of their employees endorsing and joining it. Employees could form an independent union with no UAW association. The fact the UAW can continue any effort so soon after a majority rejection is proof the NLRB is not without bias. The UAW has a lot more to gain than VW employees. No employee has said they voted no union due to any political or other outsider's statements. The UAW uses it as a good excuse for an embarrassing loss and to justify the dues money of current UAW members spent on the campaign to organize a competitor. The UAW fat cats need the increased dues revenue to give them job security which they value more than the job security of VW employees.

I doubt VW will expand their Chattanooga operation with this UAW cloud hanging over them. VW cannot openly oppose the UAW without raising the ire of their European works councils that have no idea of the difference in U.S. and European unions.

VW wants a union and it absolutely terrifies folks around here who have grown too familiar with the idea of employee-at-will or as it is euphemistically called "right to work" wherein an employer can fire you if he just does not like the way you looked at him this morning. The idea an employee might have a better idea about how to run an operation is alien to folks down here compared to Europe and Japan.

Free your minds, get out of thinking in a rut. Try something new. VW wants to use a union in a new way not familiar to most people in the US.

Inquiringmind has it right...

Volkswagen has approved a second attempt for the UAW to recruit a majority of employees. And while this must be very distressing to Tennessee politicians and other anti-union folk, it's really starting to look like Volkswagen is throwing up the middle finger to meddlers.

USA Today published an article on the matter 3 hours ago;

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – "In a move that's unusual but not unprecedented, the United Auto Workers union has sidestepped its loss in a worker vote in February and created a local union to represent workers at the Volkswagen plant in Tennessee."

"And what's surprising, considering decades of fierce anti-union efforts from the other foreign transplant automakers in the South, this time the union had the tacit approval of Volkswagen itself."

inquiringmind wrote "VW wants to use a union in a new way not familiar to most people in the US."

What's more, VW has a track record of working extremely well with unions and their model incorporating management into the mix of representation is almost unheard of elsewhere in the automotive world.

And you know what? It works very well.

VW WANTS the UAW. They are WELCOMING the UAW. And it scares the hell out of every single anti-union person in this nation, for the thought that unions are not necessarily a bad thing is a foreign concept and it cannot exist in the United States, especially for those trying to take labor relations back a hundred years or more.

Corker and the capitalist bobbleheads in this forum don't represent the entirety of public opinion - and obviously don't represent the opinion of the folks at VW.

To its credit, Volkswagen does not consider workers as mere chattel but as a vital organ of their business and, while the VW workers do not own any part of the business as they should, they are at least being recognized as needing a seat at the table where their voice can be heard. Such a concept is anathema to a "right-to-work" state and to craven capitalists everywhere.

Put aside the question of union or nonunion, the deal was already done brokered by Berke. It is that the union would back off, the politicians would back off, and this would make it more likely that VW would put the SUV line here.

After the SUV descision is made, the thought process was that in a year the union could have another election and when that happens Corker and Haslam would back off and not try to keep the union out. The fact that the UAW has already started setting this up is no surprise.

People like Bennett and Sohn are too dumb to have a clue. Also, if they make Corker the Darth Vader of this thing, it gives him more cover when he does nothing to influence the union election.

I know, I know...conspiracy theorist, blah, blah, blah...but wait and see if it doesn't happen. Corker and Haslam have sold us out.

Unions are useless and I have the right to hire and fire because I risked my money and time to develop a business. If anyone else wants to have a say, they can write me a check. To hell with you socialists.

The majority of those working on the production floor are right-wing conservatives. The thought of supporting Hillary Clinton was more than they could bear. I do not ever see a vote passing. I do see certain VW executives trying to undermine the vote and just accepting the UAW in order to get a Works Council. Those execs will not be here to suffer the consequences. They don't care. First of all, I use my name and a lot of people know my business. That "I don't believe you have a business" is the type thing people like you say to belittle someone's opinion you have no answer to.

The "crap" my employees put up with is an average of $18/hr. I pay for their insurance and 70% of their families, they max out at 4 weeks vacation after 10 years, I have 20 employees but 6 make more than $25/hr. If they have a big bill like their car needing repairs, house, etc. I let them borrow from the company with no interest. Not only that, I know them and their families personally and we all help each other when we need to.

I am told constantly by my fellow businessmen I pay too much and give too much. I don't think so for two reasons. 1. I don't want turn-over because my employees have to be highly skilled. 2. It is immoral not to pay a living wage.

It is arrogant people like you that should make me think twice about treating my employees the way they should be treated.

In 1920 unions might have been needed but now with the EPA, OSHA, labor laws, etc. they are no longer needed. You can't get away with mistreating employees. The UAW can't get one thing from VW that the employees don't have.

The bottom line is this, I don't own slaves. It they don't like it at my company, they can leave at any time. The bottom line is that I invested my time and my money and my health to create something that 20 families make a living from. Not you or anyone else has the right to tell me to do anything. What have you done???

Unions are an insult to small businessmen. Not only that, if larger corporations told them to go to hell to start with we wouldn't be dealing with this time after time.

By the way, an indication of how dishonest the union is, is the fact that they couldn't win square and fair so they are trying to find a way into the back door. Par for the course...

Go back and read what I wrote. I did not discount the existance of your business. I discounted the fact that you express such sentiment in front of your employees.

I mean really...are you going to maintain that you refer to them as "socialists?"

"It is arrogant people like you that should make me think twice about treating my employees the way they should be treated."

I'm not sure what to make of that statement, but I expressed not an ounce of arrogance about you and your employees. I think more of you than you're giving me credit for. I know you don't treat your employees as if you considered them to be budding Socialists.

I merely expressed the feeling that you likely keep most of what you posted to yourself, if you know what is good for you.

Now you and I both know that your small business will never be targeted by a union. So I'm totally confused as to why you even mention such a thing or harbor any resentment towards unions when you know you are not going to be bothered by one.

Jack Dana Dennis wrote: "You don't want an end to it, imbecile. You enjoy the attention. You are once sick Fu%$."

It's nothing but a viscous circle of projection with you. Every time you look in the mirror, I am convinced you begin typing.

I would love nothing more than for you to completely ignore my posts, and then I would totally ignore you. But that's not how you operate, troll, so here we are.

You're absolutely stupid beyond comparison to just about anyone who has ever lived. You remind me of an animal hitting its head on a brick wall, expecting it not to hurt each time.

You have the power to end this anytime you so desire, but I'm convinced that you are so stupid, that the day when I do not post your words that you want so badly to disappear, will never come.

Sir, I can't be the sick Fu%$. You are the one who admitted to being a convicted child predator in this forum.

Step one to recovery is to take responsibility for your own actions and to quit blaming others for what you have done.

You can end it now. Admit the lie. Apologize.

Albert Einstein once said to paraphrase: idiocy is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. You keep after Al expecting him to apologize for something YOU wrote. It's not going to happen!!

I will not apologize for a lie I did not first type and that I have not recanted.

If it is a lie, you typed it and you have refused to own up to typing it.

IT IS YOUR LIE. Not mine.

I'm not going around in circles with you anymore.

If you want to refuse to admit you lied in this forum, fine, leave me totally alone, and your lie disappears.

Continue the way you have, and I will post a daily reminder of your stupidity and confessions.

It's just that simple and it's all up to you.

After all the crap you have posted about me, you have some nerve to ever demand an apology without offering one yourself, first.

I don't want an apology however for I know it would never come from the heart. You don't have a heart.

The best I can ever hope for is that you will mind your own business and I'll mind mine, but so far, you're totally incapable of even that.

You are a bonafide Internet Forum troll of the worst kind.

So the Mexican standoff will continue it seems for quite some time to come.

Ibshamed: Feel good about defending a liar. You seem to forget this slug was accusing me of being a child predator long before I jokingly said it was true. So don't give me that "something you wrote" BS. Or the hundred or so fabrications accusing me of being bankrupt. You're riding the wrong pony, pal.

Fat Al, I'll stop when you man-up and apologize. Otherwise more of the same. Much more.

Hey...that's okay with me. All I've got to do each day is copy and paste.

I don't owe you an apology. Not one. You started this crap, troll.

I will finish it. One way or the other.

You're still whining about the bankruptcy? I've posted at least a half-dozen times, if you are Jack Dana Dennis, then you never filed for bankruptcy.

If you are not Jack Dana Dennis, which you refuse to retreat from, then you might still be the one who filed for bankruptcy.

But who cares? You have bigger problems to deal with today.

You're still clinging to the identity of a child molester.

And you lied again tonight, which is no surprise and I CAN prove it.

I never ONCE called you a child molester until you confessed to being one.

If you disagree with that fact, then I'm sure you'll have no problem digging up the post where I called you one, prior to your "joking" confession on May 18, 2014.

I thought Jack Dana Dennis was your son. He still might be, which explains why you're reluctant to truly identify yourself and free yourself from this identity crisis.

Is that what this is all about? Are you a daddy to a convicted child molester, rather than the man himself?

That was the accusation I offered prior to May 18, 2014, when you amazingly confessed to being Jack Dana Dennis.

You know damn well that if I take your bait and apologize, in some perceived hope that you will suddenly decide to leave me alone, that the opposite would occur.

I would be creating a monster. You would become relentless. Right now I have an edge over you. You're a confessed child pedophile.

It bothers you, but not enough for you to back off of me. So the game continues. I can get real serious and hire someone to investigate you thoroughly for some real dirt, if you insist.

The slug trails you have left on the Internet have been bad enough, but not embarrassing enough. Then again, since you have admitted to molesting kids, I'm not sure you've got a breaking point at all.

Let's see if you do.

Maybe it's time to send someone up to Knoxville, for a look around and to discover the real truth to "THE Jack Dennis."

Don't go pissing off the front porch. Someone might snap a photo or two.

I know every time I strike a nerve with the troll.

He uses my photo for his avatar.

Jack, you're a fifteen year old trapped in a coffin dodger's body.

You're totally pathetic.
