MEMPHIS - A former Memphis police officer has been convicted of raping a Rhodes College student.

The Commercial Appeal reports that the jury returned the verdict Saturday against former officer Aaron Reinsberg.

Reinsberg was found guilty of two counts of rape, one involving sex without the victim's consent and the other because the jury found the victim was helpless to consent. The former officer also was convicted of one count of assault by touching and two counts of official misconduct.

Sentencing will be later, but Reinsberg faces 8-12 years with no parole on the rape conviction. He faces up to two years on the official misconduct conviction. Judge Chris Craft said Reinsberg will be placed in protective custody because he is a former police officer.
