FAA: Small plane destroyed by fire in accident in Georgia woods; no report on fate of 2 on board

ATLANTA - The Federal Aviation Administration says a small plane has been destroyed by fire in an accident in a wooded area of western Georgia and that two people were aboard.

FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen says the agency had no immediate report on the fate of those aboard and no further information on their identities, saying her information was preliminary. She said in an emailed statement that the accident occurred Sunday in the area of Carrollton, Ga., and she also had no immediate information on the type of plane or its points of departure and destination.

Calls by The Associated Press to a law enforcement agency in the area seeking further details were not immediately returned.
