Chattanooga attorney Gerald Webb II has been appointed as Erlanger Health System's newest board member.

The Hamilton County legislative delegation unanimously decided on Webb's appointment, which was announced today at the Hamilton County Pachyderm meeting.

State Sen. Todd Gardenhire, R-Chattanooga, said members of the delegation have long discussed wanting to appoint someone to the public hospital board who is well-versed in healthcare compliance issues.

Webb has an "extensive" background in compliance, Gardenhire said.

Webb, who is a private criminal defense attorney in the Chattanooga law firm Speek, Webb, Turner and Newkirk, previously several years at Life Care Centers of America in Cleveland, Tenn., where he advised company leaders on compliance obligations and progress.

Webb also previously served as an assistant district attorney in the Hamilton County District Attorney's office.
