Pool cue beating alleged in Dalton fight
DALTON, Ga. - A drunken man is accused of beating his drunken friend with a pool cue over the weekend, according to Dalton police.
According to a police incident report, Charles Franklin Parm told his friend Korwin David Isaac Blixt that he "had something for him" while driving Blixt to Parm's apartment on Burgess Drive. Then Parm beat Blixt with the cue.
When officers arrived, they found blood covering Blixt's head and Parm's hands and jeans. Parm told investigators that he hit Blixt only with his fists. He said there was a pool cue nearby but he never used it on Blixt.
According to the report, an officer then found the pool cue, in front of Parm's door, near two puddles of blood.
"Neither Parm nor [Blixt] would give the true reason for the fight," Officer Chris Zimmerman wrote. "Both subjects were highly intoxicated and were difficult to keep on track."
Parm is charged with aggravated assault.
Georgia revenues rise in fiscal year
ATLANTA - A new report shows Georgia has ended the fiscal year with an increase in revenues of about $879 million, up 5.2 percent over the previous year.
Gov. Nathan Deal's office said Monday that Georgia's net tax collections for the fiscal year totaled nearly $17.9 billion, due in part to an 18 percent increase in corporate income tax collections. Individual income tax collections showed a modest increase of 2.4 percent.
Legislation eliminating the annual birthday tax in favor of a one-time auto sales tax resulted in a small drop in gross sales and use taxes and a substantial increase in motor vehicle fees.
Atlanta highway crash injures 9
DECATUR, Ga. - Authorities say nine people were hurt in a crash involving at least two tractor-trailers on Interstate 285 in DeKalb County.
DeKalb fire Capt. Eric Jackson told media outlets those who were hurt in the Monday afternoon crash suffered minor to moderate injuries. The crash happened near Memorial Drive and East Ponce De Leon Avenue.
It's unclear exactly how many cars were involved, and the crash is under investigation. Jackson told WSB-TV that a sudden downpour may have been a factor.
The crash prompted lane closures and traffic backups.
Nashville mayor boosting Nunn
NASHVILLE - Two of Nashville's top Democrats are planning a fundraiser for Michelle Nunn's U.S. Senate bid in Georgia.
Mayor Karl Dean and his wife, Anne Davis, held a fundraiser Monday at their Green Hills home. The Tennessean reported that U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper, D-Tennessee, will be an honorary host.
Nunn is the Democratic nominee in Georgia who will take on the winner of the July 22 GOP primary runoff between U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston and businessman David Perdue, the one-time CEO of Goodlettsville-based Dollar General.
Nunn is a nonprofit executive whose father, Sam Nunn, was a highly respected senator from Georgia from 1972 to 1996.
