Former Notre Dame High School star Adarius Bowman caught nine passes for 140 yards and three touchdowns as the Edmonton Eskimos beat the Ottawa Redblacks 27-11 last Friday, and tonight the Eskimos visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in a televised matchup of 3-0 Canadian Football League teams. It is set for 8:30 EDT on ESPN2. Edmonton is coached by South Pittsburg native and former Tennessee Tech player and assistant coach Chris Jones, a successful CFL defensive coordinator with Montreal, Calgary and Toronto before getting his head coaching chance with the Eskimos this year. Jones also is assistant general manager. In his 12 previous years in the CFL, his teams made the playoffs every year and played six times for the Grey Cup, winning three of those.

• Stroke-play leader Samantha Griffith and seventh-place Linda Carter will square off in the championship-flight final match today at 9:52 a.m. in the Women's City golf tournament at Council Fire. They each won 3 and 2 over Kathy Vaughn and Natalie Javadi, respectively, in Wednesday's semifinals. Carlene Ryon got past Lynn McGee on the 20th hole and faces Nancy Logue for the first-flight title, while Cassandra Godbold and Sharon Powell meet in the second flight and Patty Jones and Evelyn Williams play in the third flight.
Tennis
• Emily Hangstefer from Signal Mountain helped the United States team captained by her sister Katie win 2-1 over Russia on Wednesday and advance with a 3-0 pool record to Friday's Maere Cup semifinals in the international competition for hearing-impaired tennis players at the Champions Club. The U.S. women will face Pool B runner-up Germany (2-1) at 8 a.m. Friday, while Chinese Taipei (3-0) takes on Spain (2-1). In the men's Dresse Cup, wild card Russia joins pool champions Austria, France and Germany in the semifinals. The U.S. men are 1-1 after a 3-0 Wednesday loss to Germany and play Great Britain this morning in a consolation semi.

• Left-handed hitting catcher Nathan Murrell from Boyd-Buchanan School is one of three late signees announced this week by Lee University baseball coach Mark Brew. The others are Trenton Hill, a left-handed pitcher and utility player from Bentonville, Ark., and Maple Woods Community College in Missouri, and infielder Ty Broady from Greenville, Ky., and St. Catharine College who played two years at Rend Lake CC in Illinois. "We were fortunate to pick up these three quality players this late in the summer. This is a great finish to a very good recruiting class," Brew said in a Lee release. Hill hit .409 with 28 extra-base hits, 56 RBIs, 55 runs, 26 walks and 14 stolen bases in 15 tries and went 2-2 with a save and 84 strikeouts in 54 2/3 innings pitched this past season, when Broady batted .271 with 21 walks, 25 RBIs and 35 runs. Burrell hit .427 with 15 doubles, two homers, 52 RBIs, 36 runs and 18-of-19 steals success for the Buccaneers and was second-team all-state and MVP of the Tennessee-Georgia all-star game. "Lee is getting a college-ready hitter who swings the bat well from the left side of the plate," Boyd-Buchanan coach Josh Rider said. "Nate is a high-character guy." Said Flames assistant coach and primary recruiter Justin Dedman: "Nathan has been on our radar as a perennial camper for a few years now, and we have noted his progress each year. We are getting a very solid young man that will help continue the rich tradition the school already has in place."
• The Chattanooga Cyclones 16-under baseball team made sure this year. After going 6-1 and sharing first place in their pool in the 15s division in 2013 but missing the championship round because of a tiebreaker, the Cyclones went 6-0 to be among 38 pool winners in the 286-team Perfect Game World Wood Bat nationals this past week in and around Marietta, Ga. In their last two wins, the Cyclones edged the 212 A's Foundation 4-3 behind pitchers Peyton Tenant (7 strikeouts), Jackson Bell (win), Corbin Brooksbank and Alex Barbee (save) and topped Team Elite South 4-2 with Barbee getting the win and Kurt Matthews the save. Cade Evans, Brett Barbee and Noah Hill each had two hits against Elite South, Evans with an RBI and a run, and Tenant and Hunter Oliver added RBIs. Caleb Collins had two RBI hits, Logan Haga scored twice and Brett Barbee had an RBI and a run against the 212 A's.
