The U.S. Marshals Office is aiding in the search for two Monroe County jail trusties who stole a vehicle and fled a work site last week.

John Sanchez, spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Office in Knoxville, said the Monroe County Sheriff's Office asked the marshals to help.

"We'll be more than happy to be there until we find them. We're good at finding people," Sanchez said Wednesday afternoon.

Tony Joe Carroll and Ricky Burnette were working at the Madisonville Convenience Center on Industrial Drive on July 17 when they stole a car belonging to their transportation officer and drove away, according to newspaper archives.

Carroll was jailed on charges of theft, vandalism, auto burglary and destruction of valuable papers, and he had an earlier conviction for felony fleeing. Burnette was jailed on charges of driving with a suspended license, manufacture of Schedule II drugs, drug paraphernalia and violation of parole.

Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to call 423-442-3911 or 423-442-4357.
