Tennessee man charged with 2004 slaying while making routine court appearance

NEWPORT, Tenn. - An eastern Tennessee man making a routine court appearance found himself charged with killing a neighbor a decade ago.

WBIR-TV in Knoxville reported that Cocke County deputies arrested 60-year-old Boyd James on Wednesday. James has been charged with first degree murder in the May 25, 2004, shooting death of Randy Grooms in Hartford.

James was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and violation of the sex offender registry.

James is being held in the Cocke County Jail without bond. Court records do not list an attorney for James.
