KNOXVILLE — Detrick Mostella can exhale.

The University of Tennessee freshman's future with the Volunteers basketball program was on hold for most of the summer as he waited to be cleared by the NCAA eligibility center.

The 6-foot-3, 170-pound guard got the good news Thursday, as two program sources confirmed to the Times Free Press that Mostella will be eligible to play for the Vols this season.

Tennessee made Mostella's clearance official with a brief video posted on the program's Instagram account. In the video, Mostella, wearing No. 15 in the Vols' home white uniform, says, "Vol Nation, I got good news: I got cleared today. Thanks to everybody. Thanks to all the fans who were supporting me."

The video ends with Mostella dunking on a basket in Pratt Pavilion.

Mostella was perhaps the star of the Rocky Top League earlier this summer after he displayed his athleticism with a number of highlight-reel dunks.

The Alabama native signed with Oklahoma State out of La Lumiere School in Indiana last year, but he asked out of his National Letter of Intent and committed to play at Pittsburgh. That never materialized, and he played this past season at Notre Dame Preparatory School in Massachusetts.

Mostella, who signed with Tennessee in early May and enrolled later that month, was a four-star prospect and ranked No. 45 overall in the 2014 class by 247sports.
